Jacksonville, Florida – With great sorrow, the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department (JFRD) has announced the tragic passing of Rescue Engineer Colton R. Tibbetts, 23, who lost his life in a single-vehicle crash during the early hours of March 25, 2026.
Colton’s untimely death has left the Jacksonville firefighting community reeling, with family, friends, and colleagues deeply mourning the loss of a promising young firefighter.
Colton Tibbetts joined JFRD as part of Recruit Class 322 on July 8, 2022. From the start, he quickly distinguished himself with his dedication, professionalism, and a deep commitment to public safety. His work ethic and passion for serving others made an immediate impact on his team. On November 1, 2025, he earned a well-deserved promotion to rescue engineer, a role that reflected not only his technical expertise but also his leadership and ability to inspire those around him.
Throughout his career, Colton showed an unwavering dedication to his job, always going above and beyond. His courage, discipline, and work ethic became his trademarks, earning him the respect of his peers.
A son of firefighting tradition, Colton grew up in a family that valued public service. His father, recently retired Lieutenant Brian Tibbetts, and his mother, Jody Tibbetts, both instilled in him a love for helping others. Colton’s family legacy in firefighting was a source of immense pride for him, and it was evident in his passion for the profession. A cherished photo shared by JFRD captures Colton’s graduation night on October 6, 2022, when he celebrated the completion of his recruit training with his parents and brother by his side.
