The Kent County Community Mourns the Tragic Loss of Nicole Marie Moore and Her Daughter Kyli Grace Dodge
The Kent County community is grieving the tragic and sudden loss of Nicole Marie Moore, 38, and her daughter Kyli Grace Dodge, 16, who tragically passed away on Tuesday from accidental carbon monoxide poisoning. The pair were discovered unresponsive in their Honda SUV at the Maplewood Mobile Home Park around 2:30 p.m. by deputies from the Kent County Sheriff’s Office. Witnesses reported a strong smell of exhaust fumes emanating from the vehicle, prompting the emergency response.
The Kent County Medical Examiner’s Office has confirmed that both Nicole and Kyli died from carbon monoxide asphyxiation. Investigators from the Sheriff’s Office and the Byron Township Fire Department measured dangerously high carbon monoxide levels inside the vehicle—more than 2,000 parts per million—well above the hazardous threshold (structures are evacuated at just 35 parts per million). Family members indicated that the SUV’s exhaust system had been faulty, and the vehicle’s floorboards were in poor condition, which may have contributed to the tragic accident.
Relatives reported that Nicole and Kyli had returned to Nicole’s grandparents’ home, Bobby and Linda Fillipo, early that morning after a trip to Tennessee. They later left in the SUV and likely fell asleep with the engine running, which allowed the deadly carbon monoxide to build up inside the vehicle, resulting in the fatal incident.
Nicole and Kyli are being remembered by their family and the Kent County community as loving, caring, and cherished individuals. The family’s current focus is to support Nicole’s surviving children and honor the memory of their lost loved ones.
Messages of love, prayers, and support continue to pour in from the community as friends, neighbors, and relatives reflect on Nicole and Kyli’s warmth, kindness, and the joy they brought to those around them. The Kent County Sheriff’s Office encourages anyone in need of local assistance or support to contact 211 for resources.
The family has requested privacy during this deeply painful time, and continues to appreciate the outpouring of love and sympathy as they come to terms with this overwhelming loss.
Rest in peace, Nicole and Kyli. You will be dearly missed.
